A new entertainment venue, the House of Magic, is set to open in Glenside on April 4, 2025, transforming the former PNC bank building into a hub of mystery and wonder. The brainchild of owner Marc DeSouza, this unique establishment will feature a 103-seat jewel-box theater, a cozy 25-seat mini theater for close-up performances, a VIP lounge with a discreet entrance, event rental spaces, a magician’s study, and more.
Teaming up with Smoke & Mirrors Theater, the House of Magic promises a diverse array of performances encompassing magic, mentalism, comedy, and other captivating acts within its elegant theater space. The venue is designed to offer an immersive and enchanting experience for visitors seeking entertainment that transcends the ordinary.
During an open house event, Marc DeSouza, accompanied by Danny Archer, co-owner of Smoke & Mirrors, shared insights about the venue with members of the local business community. As anticipation builds for the grand opening, the House of Magic aims to become a focal point for cultural enrichment and artistic expression in Glenside and beyond.
The venue will showcase a mix of live acts, with Marc DeSouza himself featured on a screening of his performance on CW’s “Penn and Teller: Fool Us.” Behind the scenes, technicians are hard at work in the control booth, ensuring that every detail is meticulously prepared for the debut performance, promising a seamless and magical experience for all attendees.
One of the standout features of the House of Magic is the incorporation of roughly 2,000 original safety deposit boxes from the old bank building, adding an element of intrigue to the shows. Reimagined as the “Vault of Secrets,” these boxes will play a role in enhancing the mystique and allure of the performances, creating an air of suspense and excitement for the audience.
Furthermore, the lower floor of the building is undergoing a transformation into a 4,500-square foot museum, library, and event space dedicated to celebrating the rich history of magic. This space will house a treasure trove of magic books, manuscripts, apparatus, props, and costumes, offering visitors a glimpse into the captivating world of illusion and sleight of hand.
As the House of Magic takes shape within the historic PNC Bank building, it symbolizes a nod to the past while embracing the future of magical entertainment. With its commitment to preserving the art of magic and providing a platform for talented performers to showcase their skills, this venue is poised to become a cultural landmark in Glenside.
With the inaugural family magic show featuring Mystique the Magician scheduled for April 5, 2025, the House of Magic is gearing up to captivate audiences of all ages with its spellbinding performances. As the curtains rise on this new chapter in the world of magic, patrons can look forward to a world of enchantment and wonder at the House of Magic in Glenside.
