ROUTINE 1: Engage a “married couple” from the audience and borrow their wedding rings. The rings are securely fastened onto a combination padlock. Audience members are given the chance to open the lock, but to no avail. The magician then enquires about the couple’s wedding year and instructs them to input the four-digit year into the combination. Note that the lock has remained in their hands throughout the process. Presto! The lock springs open and the rings are graciously returned to the couple.

ROUTINE 2: The magician presents a brass combination lock to a spectator, encouraging them to attempt to unlock it. Despite several tries, the lock remains closed. Then, without any contact with the lock or knowledge of the spectator’s birth year, the magician instructs the spectator to enter the year of their birth. Alternatively, they can use their mother’s or father’s birth year. Lo and behold, the lock opens!
